Angus King “Overwhelmed” by the Energy at the Pepperell Mill Campus

As mentioned in our blog post last week, former Maine Governor Angus King visited the campus last Thursday. When talking about the businesses here, he told Journal Tribune‘s Dina Mendros, “I am overwhelmed by the energy and numbers”.

As the video below shows, the energy that the former governor was met with was a product of the great tenants that call the campus home. It is evident that King got a true taste of the community that has developed within the mill.

Here is a public thank you letter that was sent to the editors of local papers:

We wanted to publicly thank Angus King for taking the time to visit the North Dam Mill and the Biddeford-Saco area last week.

We are excited to be the stewards of the redevelopment of more than 1 million square feet of space in downtown Biddeford. Mr. King, your attention and visit have helped to illuminate the importance of the project.

We see the redevelopment of the Biddeford-Saco mills as the key to the economic redevelopment of the area. Our build out plan is an eight year master plan. By year four, approximately 1,400 people will either live or work at the campus. By year eight, 2,100 people will occupy the complex. If the other mills in the district develop as well, these predictions will double.

Consider the positive economic and cultural impact that mill redevelopment has had on Lewiston, or Lowell, or Lawrence, or Baltimore, Maryland. These cities are proven examples of success. Ask the restaurant or small business owner on the main street of any of these cities if they have benefited from their mill’s redevelopment. The answer will be a resounding yes.

The project is real. The city and region are in position to surge forward. Your attention to us is greatly valued.

Your decision to run for the U.S. senate is a perfect fit for the state of Maine, and would be a great win for all. Thank you sir for spending time in Biddeford-Saco.
