Who are you and where are you from?

I’m Dr. Aline Potvin, and I’m originally from Fort Kent, Maine. I’ve been practicing in Maine for 4 years, but moved the office to Biddeford in November, 2016.

Tell me a little about your business?

My business, Your Own Wellness, is a private Naturopathic Medical practice. My focus is digestive health and autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism, etc. As a Naturopathic doctor I use both conventional medicine (labs, medications) and natural therapies like nutrition, lifestyle medicine, botanical medicine, and shamanic practice to help people improve quality of life and overcome chronic disease.

What made you choose the mill for your business?

I love Biddeford and how it is evolving. My family worked in the Lewiston Mill, and so there is something about the mill building that I felt personally connected to. I also greatly value the diversity of businesses in the campus, which meet all my interests outside of medicine.

How long have you been doing this?

4 years, though I’ve only recently moved to Biddeford.

What makes your business interesting to you?

My business is a way to help people, educate, and help individualize healthcare. It never gets boring, because everyone is unique and must be treated as such.

What makes you stand out from others in the same industry?

I focus largely on autoimmune diseases. There aren’t any other NDs in the state of Maine that do so, as far as I’m aware. I have a special interest in epigenetic testing, and there aren’t a lot of healthcare providers in the state that do that. I’m also a shamanic practitioner, which is uncommon in medical practices.
