Mill Artifacts Take Center Stage in the Big Apple

The giant cast iron doors from the old Steam Plant building
at the Pepperell Mill Campus can be seen in the background.

Several months ago the mill was visited by members of the Brooklyn based design and construction company Hecho Inc. They were blown away by the treasure trove of unique architectural artifacts available within the Pepperell Mill Campus.

Over the summer Hecho placed several orders for various artifacts and building materials. Until recently, we hadn’t seen how our artifacts had been used to transform spaces throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan.

After a recent order, the good folks at Hecho tipped us off to a New York Times story that featured a picture of the boiler doors they had purchased over the summer. The doors came off the old 18th century coal fired boiler that still stands in the Steam Plant at the Pepperell Mill Campus. The doors are 7 feet long, 5 feet tall and weight several hundred pounds.

Hecho also sent along links to photos of a vintage diner/pizza shop that features Maple flooring from within the Pepperell Mill Campus that had been salvaged and a new whiskey lounge that features flooring and some other artifacts.

Palmer’s, Brooklyn. This restaurant opened up last month and it’s half vintage diner/pizza shop.
This is where they used the floor, and lots of other antiques from their visit.

Flatiron Room, Manhattan. A whisky lounge with an old-school feel. Just opened last week and is getting great reviews.
Here they used other salvage items from the Campus.
